Unwind With Jesus: Peace is in His Presence

Being a creative is fun, but when you pair that with perfectionism, it can get stressful. Sometimes while working on creative projects, I can get stuck on one detail and feel like I can’t move forward until it is made to my liking. This tends to happen when I’ve been staring at the project for too long, so one thing I do to de-stress is I turn on my Christian playlist.

I like to think that I can listen to Christian music and work at the same time, but the truth is, I always end up pausing my work so I can take in the lyrics and begin reflecting on and praising God. The work suddenly doesn’t matter, because all I want to do is think about how amazing God is and let Him know!

One particular time when I turned on my Christian playlist and put my work to the side, I felt so overcome with emotion that I decided to journal my thoughts. I was listening to Nobody by Gil Joe, Nkay, and Proud Refuge, and it had me thinking about how truly, I don’t ever want to be away from God’s presence. The best way I can explain is that it feels so amazingly safe and right. So much so that when I think about my life prior to being in a committed relationship with God, I feel so relieved that Jesus saved me from missing out on His presence.

Had Jesus not died for my sins and risen again on the third day, defeating death and the power of sin once and for all, I would have been eternally separated from God’s presence. Eternal life starts at salvation, so once you are saved, you already possess it. While journaling that time, it hit me that God’s presence doesn’t ever end for the saved. He doesn’t ever separate from us, and we have unlimited access to Him. From salvation into FOREVER, we get to be with Him! What more could I want than to be with my Creator? And if this safeness and right-ness that I’m currently experiencing is nothing but a glimpse compared to what I will experience when Jesus returns for me, then I look forward to the full experience and am grateful that He made that possible for me.

There really is none like Him, as the song says. My mind is made up. Absolutely nothing measures up to God, and I want everyone to have a relationship with Him to see that for themselves. So if you are reading this and want to commit your life to Christ, then accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior who took your place and atoned for your sin, so that by believing this, you can have eternal life which is forever in God’s presence.
